Choose one of the fabulous beaches in Almeria. They won’t disappoint you!

1. Mónsul beach (San José)

El Monsul beach in San José, Almería

Despite being a semi-virgin, isolated, 300mt-long shore, the beach of Mónsul is very much attended by tourists with families. It lies within the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata, and one of its most famous features is a lava formation right in the middle of its shores, where tourists usually shelter themselves from the hot sun rays.

Its fine sand and limpid, slope-free waters will make you forget the total absence of facilities. You will only find a parking lot near the beach, but being it limited-access, you’d better go by bus.

The beach of Monsul is the Natural Park’s most famous beach, also thanks to the plenty of movies that have been shot there, among which some scenes of the film series “Indiana Jones.

2. Aguadulce beach (Roquetas de Mar)

This 2500mt-long beach is one of the most frequented beaches in the South of Almeria, especially during weekends and summer. The dark sand and quiet waters have made it possible for it to gain the Blue Flag, an award given by the EU, as well as other prizes that certify its quality.

There are plenty of services, such as rescue service, local police, Red Cross, in addition to the most common facilities (toilets, showers, bins, umbrella and deck-chairs rental service). Moreover, the beach provides a safe access for disabled people.

But there is more to do! If you fancy spending a good time with your friends, you can go for a stroll alongside the picturesque paseo marítimo or enjoy a tasty meal in one of its chiringuitos, the typical Spanish restaurants on the beach.

3. Los Genoveses beach (San José)

Beach of the Genoveses, San José

This fabulous beach is situated 2km far from the little town of San José, in the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata. It is 1200 metres long, full of fine, gold sand and the total absence of buildings and streets makes it an entirely virgin cove.

The only way to get there is on foot, through a natural path full of lavender bushes. While walking, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the whole bay and the Morrón de Los Genoveses, an outstanding, 85-metres-tall volcanic headland.

The beach is famous because some famous movies were shot there, among which we recall “The Wind and the Lion” with Sean Connery. A curiosity: the beach owes its name to the Genoese fleet that helped the Castellan troops liberate Almeria from the Muslim kingdom of Granada in 1147. This aid is the reason why the Almerian and Genoese flags are the same.

4. Las Negras beach (Las Negras)

Las Negras beach

You can find this 850 mt-long beach at the heart of the town of Níjar, in the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata. Its sand mixes with little pebbles, while its crystal-clear waters and the natural barriers, which repair you from the wind, make it the ideal spot where to bathe.

This large family-friendly beach offers lots of facilities, such as showers, rescue service, an access specifically designed for disabled people, a parking area, in addition to a sea ferry that connects the area with the small secluded bay of San Pedro.

The beach of Los Muertos is what they call “a heaven on earth”, despite its name, which reminds of the corpses that used to reach the beach after shipwrecks. In fact, crystal-clear water characterises this 1600 mt-long virgin beach, which allows tourists to engage in scuba diving. The thin gravelled sand and the landscapes are other noteworthy features.

Located in the protected natural park of Cabo de Gata, it is attended mostly during high season by tourists and nudists from every nationality, thus being low and middle seasons the ideal moments to rejoice here and enjoy this virgin land at best. Here you won’t find any services, except for surveillance service, to prevent unwanted dangers provoked by the easterly wind, that may blow uninterruptedly. When this happens, it is advisable not to dive into the waters, since the wind makes it hard to get out.

The access to this beach is far from simple, but, at the same time, it makes this beach even more charming. In fact, you will have to go down a steep, 800 mt-long path, after leaving your car in the nearby parking, whose cost rounds €4/5.

6. Los Escullos beach (Níjar)

Los Escullos beach

Los Escullos is a little town of fishermen in the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata, whose beach finds itself between the Isleta del Moro and the beach of Arco. This quiet and not much frequented little spot lies surrounded by dunes of fine sand. From there, you can enjoy the view of the Castle of San Felipe, built by Charles III in the XVIII century.

The beach owns a surveillance and a coastal protection service, as well as a few not-so-far restaurants and bars. It has become famous thanks to the shooting of movies such as “Les Dalton” or “Never say never again.

Its limpid blue waters and its fine, gold sand are looked after by the breathtaking castle of San Ramón, situated on a nearby fossil dune. The beach of El Playazo is completely safe, thanks to the slope-free entry to the water. Therefore, the beach is particularly indicated for families with children.

You can find the beach along the path that runs through La Molata cliffs, whose unusual shapes you can spot while sunbathing on the sand. Due to its isolated position, the beach is frequented by nudists, too.
