Features of the beach

The beach of La Herradura is an urban beach, with dark sand and gravel. It’s usually very attended, as it’s ideal for those who seek sunshine and warm temperatures all year round. However, thanks to its dimensions (2,050-mt length per more than 40-mt width), you will find less-crowded spots, for which you can relax as you please, at the sound of the waves crashing on the shore.

The easy swell makes this beach ideal for families with children. Besides, the mountains that surround the seashore protect it from the cold winds coming from the Sierra Nevada, thus creating a sub-tropical climate in the area.

Fun fact: the beach of La Herradura is named after the peculiar shape of its bay (a horseshoe, “Herradura” in Spanish), being the two extremes the Punta de la Mona and the cliffs of Maro-Cerro Gordo.

Facilities

The beach of La Herradura relies on all kinds of facilities to let you spend an unforgettable day on the Costa Tropical. Moreover, the beach features a wide maritime promenade, wooden footpath to get to the seashore, chiringuitos, children playgrounds, and numerous companies that provide you with engaging activities to enjoy your stay at best.

It has surveillance service, marked dangerous areas, a local police post and a lifeguards tower. Likewise, you will also be able to rent hammocks and parasols for the day, shower and use the toilets located all along the beach. A water and beach cleaning service is also provided in La Herradura.
