Marbella and Puerto Banús are known as the luxury jewels of the Costa del Sol. The city of Marbella, in addition to being incredibly rich in history (it was home to Phoenicians, Visigoths, Romans, and Moors), is also the capital of luxury of both Andalucia and whole Spain.

Let’s discover where you can find luxury in Marbella and Puerto Banús if it is when surrounded by the magnificent mountains of Sierra Blanca, or around the picturesque city centre, or else alongside its 26 km worth of coast.

The Milla de Oro

The Milla de Oro (The Golden Mile) is the luxury neighbourhood of Marbella par excellence. Located in the west part of the city, it connects Marbella with the marina of Puerto Banús.

Since it reached the fame in the 50s, when the exclusive 5-star Marbella Club hotel was built thanks to Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe, it has been growing thanks to the wealthy families and famous celebrities, who have been making their summer holiday accommodations in the area. Among them, it’s worth mentioning the Saudi Arabian Prince Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, whose astonishing villa reminds of the White House.

Luxury shops in Marbella

In the Milla de Oro, whose name was invented by the German showman Roy Boston, luxury expresses itself at its highest. Hotels that seem to have come out directly from the Arabian Nights, chic shops, restaurants, design cafeterias, and golf clubs are located alongside a lush vegetation Boulevard, possibly one of the most famous in Spain.

In the Milla de Oro you can also enjoy the rhythm of the night, in exclusive nightclubs, such as the Billionaire Club and the Olivia Valere, where you may end dancing with your favourite celebrity in a thematic party.

In case you fancy a more tranquil environment, don’t hesitate to move towards La Concha, the mountain that looks over the Milla de Oro, where you can find luxury urbanisations and magnificent views over the city.

The Nueva Andalucía

Roundabout Nueva Andalucía

The well-known property developer José Banús renovated the once small fishermen’s village in 1963, which was later given the name of Nueva Andalucía (New Andalucia). The project wanted it to become a living area for those who weren’t as rich as the sultans, kings and celebrities that already lived in the Milla de Oro.

Located in front of the marina of Puerto Banús, it is possible to spot the city centre of Marbella, the African Coast and even Gibraltar from the small hill that surrounds the Nueva Andalucía. Moreover, Nueva Andalucía is also known as the Golf Valley, since it owns four golf courts, which make it one of the areas with the highest concentration of golf courts per inhabitant.

Puerto Banús

Spot it while taking a stroll between the yachts, the sporting cars such as Ferrari and Maserati, and the glamorous shop windows of Louis Vuitton and Prada among others, that populate the Paseo Muelle de Ribera.

It was created in 1970, following the project of José Banús and the Suisse architect Noldi Schreck, the ideator of Beverly Hills, and it soon became one of the greatest ports of the Mediterranean Sea. Its fame spread so fast that even The King and The Queen of Spain, King Ranieri and Grace of Monaco showed up at its inauguration.
